Many doorways to patios and decks are sliding glass doors. Over the years, the toll that the sun takes on their frame can make them difficult to slide. It may also more difficult to secure, as so many put broomsticks on the tracks to prevent someone from jimmying the lock and coming inside while they are sleeping. Have you considered replacing them with French doors. There are locks at the bottom and top to secure the non-primary door, and, as you can see in this image, both deadbolt and handle locks make them very secure. Also notice that curtains are not required for many French doors, as between the double panes are louvers that can be opened, closed and even raised out of sight by the slide bars on the right sides of the windows.
