We Do Kitchens Right!

BEFORE: In the image on the left you see a galley kitchen that had wasted space above the sink that could have been used for cabinets but were not, cabinets that did not reach the ceiling (simply collecting dust, as the area atop could not be used for storage), and old appliances. Although the owner had installed new counter tops a dozen years ago, they were fabricated granite molded into caps that fit over the top of the original countertops. They also had installed a backsplash back then which was thin metal designed to look like ceramic tiles, not a real backsplash. Also, as you can see, the kitchen was cut off from the living room area with the wall that is on the right where the stove was, making it a classic galley kithen. This family reached out to transform this kitchen, requiring removal of the wal and a total transformation of the cabinets, counter tops, appliances, sink, and backsplash. Take a look:
AFTER: When we say this kitchen was transformed, we mean it! It required relocating the refrigerator (which was relatively new and wanted to be kept by the owners) to the garage while the remodeling was being done. Then the team removed the cabinets, sink and other appliances. The pantry was removed, as well, as it was replaced with a custom pantry that matched the new cabinets. Notice how all the cabinets go all the way to the ceiling - functionality has been improved with this renovation. We also built storage compartments beneath a bench in the back area that previously served as the dinning area before this had an open floor plan. Amazing - that's how the owners described this kitchen transformation.
Then the oven was relplaced with a double-oven (with a convection oven under the standard oven, as well as the Bosch microwave with convection oven functions, as well, and a whisper-quiet Bosch dishwasher. The new counter tops cut from a single slab from Brazil are complemented by the real stone backsplash. Note the indirect lighting mounted beneath the upper cabinets and the pocket lights in the ceiling, as well as the beautiful light fixture over the island. Storage is plentiful, including compartments spanning the full length of the island on the right side, as well. Of course, we had professional plumbers redo all of the plumbing and professional electricians install new wiring through the downstairs. Notice how they even installed outlets on each end of the island to support small appliances such as toasters and coffee makers. Naturally, all of the cabinet doors and drawers are designed with the soft-close features.
Here's a view of this kitchen from the family room, now possible because of the transformation of three rooms (kitchen, dining room, and living room) into an open floor plan. Here's a different angle:
